Thanks to funding we recieved through Conseil Sport Loisir de l’Estrie, Phelps was able to bring a whole new level of energy and activity to our youth programs this season! From our Teen Sports Night to new programming at Friday Night Lounge, this initiative focused on introducing youth to new ways to move, learn, and connect with their peers.
During Teen Sports Night, we welcomed 60+ teens from across Stanstead for an action-packed night of round-robin sports, including dodgeball, basketball, floor hockey, volleyball, indoor soccer, relays, and skills challenges. To make the event even more engaging, we were thrilled to hire six post-secondary students to serve as coaches and event support, bringing energy, encouragement, and mentorship to all participants.
The Friday Night Lounge also got a sporty upgrade! Teens enjoyed a skating night, joined a karate workshop led by Shinkyokushin Stanstead, and explored bowling and a golf simulator with golf coach Lisa Smith. These activities offered a chance to try something new, connect with local organizations, and discover recreational opportunities that already exist in the community.
The CaBouge@Phelps initiative isn’t just about sports, it’s about movement as a key part of holistic wellness. Physical activity helps youth build confidence, manage stress, develop social skills, and maintain overall health. By creating events and workshops that bring together students from the three high schools in our area, the program also strengthens community connections and encourages teens to explore new interests in a supportive and fun environment.
There’s a clear desire in our community for more recreation-based sports initiatives, and the CaBouge Grant has helped us take a big step forward. From introducing teens to karate and other organized sports to creating collaborative, high-energy events, CaBouge@Phelps is helping youth stay active, engaged, and inspired.
We can’t wait to continue building opportunities for fun, movement, and connection across Stanstead!
