Our young people today are facing different obstacles and realities than the ones we may have experienced. Their trials are not necessarily greater or smaller in scope to those of previous generations, they are simply different. Therefore, they need to be tackled differently. Thankfully, tackling real problems in a different way is what our Phelps family is all about...The first step, of course, is identifying those challenges...Students’ return to schools has not gone well. How a student feels about being at school is directly related to school achievement. With this data in mind, we surveyed our high school participants and were concerned with the results: There was a significant decline in students’ sense of wellbeing at school. 77% of students said they felt good at school at the beginning of the school year versus 57% by the end. These students need a place to feel safe, to develop life skills, to build positive relationships, to ask for help, and to be accepted as they are. That is what we do at Phelps.
